What an amazing night of Sacramento's most fashionable coming together to celebrate community growth and take in the newest trends to grace the runway for 2020. Hosted by Goodday Sacramento and CBS13's very own reporter, Sabrina Silva, it was a night full of skillful outfit changes, VIP treatment, and the constant flashing of paparazzi camera lights throughout the venue. This year's appropriately dubbed Fashion in the City (FITC), was hosted in an amazing new venue, The Rink Studios, who partnered with DMR Productions to present this year's event. After years of renovation in the historical neighborhood of Del Paso Heights, The Rink Studios is an amazing example of community growth, utilizing the potential of a once glorified historical Sacramento neighborhood to collaborate with those working to restore it in attempts to result in greatness. Before we talk about the greatness that ensued during the finale showcases, let's recap what happened during the week prior to the big shows. Monday was all about hair and makeup. Headed up by the talented folks at Cosmo Beauty Academy, it was an event filled with tips, pointers, and live model demos on everything one needs to know to be successful in the field. This team, led by Soledad Mendez, also slayed all the hair and makeup for the models during the shows. Tuesday was all about education in the form of a fashion panel including some major players in the Sacramento fashion scene. Led by Emmy award winning talk show host Veronica Castro, the panel included Ryan Hammond of R Douglas Custom Clothier; notable fashion photographer, Tim Engle; accredited attorney and fashion mentor, Uduak Oduok; and international fashion model, Faith Vega. It was a great opportunity to hear about their experiences, struggles, and triumphs, while the audience in attendance got the chance to ask questions to the panel. Wednesday was an event for all aspiring models, the annual model bootcamp. The workshop mainly focused on runway training, however, it also catered to models seeking advice on how to successfully break into the industry. Thursday was Fashion on Film, a fun collaboration with the California Film Association. This event juxtaposes short films that revolve around high end avant garde fashion trends and themes. This year focused on the retro vibe and was definitely not one to sleep on. This was DMR Productions' first collaboration with Unbounded Ambition Films for an online series using FITC as one of the principle sets to be the backdrop of the series. Before moving on to the highlight of the week, the finale, let's take a moment to recognize the charity behind the effort. A portion of the bar went to benefit the L for Lupus Foundation, which is a charitable cause DMR Productions is proud to get behind in support. Find out more about the cause at www.lforlupus.com. Event sponsors included Relaxation Energy Mood (REM), JQ Events, Cosmo Beauty Academy, APS Presentations, and CustoMyHair. VIP food was provided by Kru Japanese Contemporary Cuisine, and Locked Barrel. REM went the extra mile and partnered with the L for Lupus Foundation, and created Blood Orange CBD oral drops. A CBD oil drop provides fast results, and long- lasting effects to relieve pain. 50% of the proceeds from the sales will be donated directly to the foundation. For more information on the this and other CBD products you can visit their website at www.reliefenergymood.com This exclusive annual display of style excellence brought out a plethora of talented designers, gorgeous models, and fashionistas from every walk of life. Friday night showcased the talent of stylist Ashley Goins, who presented a tribute collection inspired by Selena, the late Tejano singer, honoring the 25th anniversary of her passing. Student designers Kelsie Nicole, Laila Allathkani, and Gabrielle Pyle from Sacramento State Fashion Association, Keevona Reynolds, Olivia Armstead, Maya D'Leon, and Annmarie Bustamante alongside her co-designer Dalya Azulai and Jennifer Laughlin, with fabric designs by Dan Cordie, rounded off the featured designers for the night. The extravagance and skill displayed on Friday night was only the beginning, giving everyone a taste of what the Sacramento fashion scene has to offer, and what was still to come. If Friday night was a taste, Saturday night was the buffet. With a packed house, including Sacramento's own VIP David Garibaldi, who has shown support years prior, Saturday night transported everyone in attendance to a place of glamour and exclusivity. This truly adding clear evidence to the apparent growth of our Capital City. The designers who rocked it on Saturday were Tamika Huff; Jade Marlin; Zenzele Nuru, in collaboration with Mario B and Miss B; Anastasia Kryukova, in collaboration with Audentes Leather; Samantha Wall; and lastly Adeline Muminova, in collaboration with Eshonna Trice. So much breathtaking style engulfed the building Saturday night! For those unable to attend, you truly missed out. As the night wrapped up, CEO/Founder, Duane Ram, and myself, Associate Producer/Production Manager, were welcomed to the stage by the fabulous Sabrina Silva to thank the hard working and dedicated team with DMR Productions. We also took a moment to give a special shout out to everyone who helped make the week come to fruition. It has truly been an honor to continue to be a part of this growing industry in our expanding golden city. To see how far we have come as a production would make any fashionista shine. After a brief speech thanking the audience, sponsors, venue, models, makeup artists, and team, we invited everyone to the after party at Northside Bar a few doors down as well as London downtown, two new vibrant bars joining the Sacramento nightlife scene. And with that, and with a heavy heart, we bid the night adieu. After another amazing year, we can only expect even bigger and better things for the year to come with the next production of FITC, which is already in the works. We are proud to announce that our fashion show production recently received a 2020 Best of Sacramento Award! We are truly honored for being given this recognition. Sacramento Fashion Week has been selected for the 2020 Best of Sacramento Award in the category of Fashion Show Production. The Sacramento Award Program focuses on companies that have demonstrated their ability to use various marketing methods to grow their business in spite of difficult economic times. Recognition is given to those companies and organizations who have shown the ability to use their best practices and implemented programs to generate competitive advantages and long-term value.
