An annual event at which the standard clothing attire is all white. The event is also a birthday celebration for Sacramento Fashion Week (SACFW) founder and producer Duane Ram. The special event will include an Island-themed Lovo Dinner Buffet. A Lovo is a Fiji islands feast using an underground earth oven. This traditional technique involves digging a pit into the ground and placing hot coals inside. Everything from fish to chicken can be cooked in a lovo including Palusami which is a specialty dish that consists of taro leaves filled with or without fish, onions and coconut cream all wrapped up and placed over the coals. The meat, either chicken or pork is bundled up in banana leaves before being placed in the lovo to retain their moisture. This method of cooking can take up to 4 hours. The event will also feature a dance group performance, five top designers from SACFW presenting their collections on a 30ft raised runway and a live DJ for an after-event party. As a fashion brand HSY is best known for combining contemporary silhouettes with the traditional techniques of old. The brand’s inspiration is distinctly Eastern peppered with Western influences. Hassan Sheheryar Yasin is the fashion force behind the label and has been referred to as the ‘New King of Couture’ by Harper’s Bazaar magazine. In the news, Pakistan is seldom, if ever, mentioned for its extraordinary literature, its soul stirring music, its cuisine, or its fashion. Pakistani fashion designers face a difficult task of promoting their brands, and building successful fashion-related businesses in a country struggling with issues of terrorism, religious fundamentalism, and militancy, among others. The name of the country alone tends to stir up images of Islamic fanaticism, suicide bombings, and the Taliban. These are the pictures that the international media has associated with Pakistan for the last three decades. Certain arts and crafts that define the heritage, such as hand-sewn embroidery, are becoming obsolete in a struggling economy. Young Pakistani artists want to show the world, and Pakistan itself, the "other side of Pakistan.” The Pakistan with the aforementioned rich, vibrant culture, and the long heritage of beauty, vibrancy, kindness, and love. It was, and still is, a "positive" Pakistan. Art has historically been a medium that bridges cultural gaps, transcends differences, and ultimately creates awareness. Visual awareness through art, whether via a painting or a high-end fashion show can illustrate one's rich culture, steeped in history and beauty. As of right now, the average cost of an Indian wedding in the United States is expected to hit $250,000 this year, roughly 10 times the national average, according to Indian Weddings Magazine, BRINGING THE POSITIVE IMAGE BACK
