From first glance at Maria Luna, you would see her beautiful face and perfect stature. However behind the face and body, there is a woman who stands for those who can’t. A self-proclaimed dream agent, Maria Luna is an undocumented immigrant who has been nothing but fiercely honest about her struggle living in limbo in America. Maria was born in Mexico, her mother, a U.S. resident, intended to abandon her there but her grandmother found out and saved her life, bringing her back to Los Angeles where she was raised until her grandmother had passed. Her mother took her in then at ten years old, a life Maria described was cruel and abusive. She turned to school and focused on her studies and excelled, however she couldn’t enjoy the fruit of labor of being a straight-A student, simply because she wasn’t an American citizen. It was at college where she discovered her passion to bring light to an issue that leaves so many in the same predicament Maria finds herself in daily In 2012 Maria walked for Sacramento Fashion Week, not only as a gorgeous model but also to bring light to an issue that is definitely not talked about in the Fashion Industry. How ironic as she was the center of attention in a room full of people who take what she longs for, for granted – U.S. citizenship. Maria was showing that an educated, successful and empowering women and undocumented immigrant can and will accomplish anything and that her fight for freedom is far from over. She is no different from the person next to her or behind her; she grew up in California and considers herself a Californian, and she will continue to prove it in any way she can. Today Maria Luna lives in Los Angeles, California where she is a music artist and writer. She uses her art and voice to bring light and publicity on what students who are undocumented immigrants go through daily. Her current focus is to produce art that inspires those who come from struggle to chase their dreams, no matter what. She is to publish her first book in the coming year that shares her fight for freedom, in a country that boasts for freedom of all. This coming year Maria Luna will be joining Sacramento Fashion Week (SACFW) again to host The White Party on November 3rd in Elk Grove, California. The White Party is an annual event at which the standard clothing attire is all white. The event also coincides with the birthday celebration of Sacramento Fashion Week (SACFW) founder and producer Duane Ram.
