The Scene: You are interviewing attendees on the red carpet asking them about what they are wearing as they attend a private party. Pay Rate: $20/hr. $100 minimum Originally from the beautiful islands of Fiji, Juhne Tuilaucala moved to America in 2000 with an education in hairdressing. Armed with a passion for fashion and makeup, she was beyond excited when Fiji finally got it's own fashion week. With this new found passion, she began coordinating private events, eventually becoming the founder and producer of Pacifika Fashion Show, hosted in San Francisco, California. The event features six international designers showcasing complete collections of 15+ pieces. Tickets include a luxurious three-course dinner. Q & A with Juhne Tuilaucala
Was it always a dream of yours to produce a show like Pacifika or was it just an idea that came up along the way, inspired by something else? J: It's always been a dream of mine to do a fashion show someday for quite some time. Now I'm pursuing it, and I'm so excited! I had a big birthday bash earlier this year and had some amazing feedback from my guests on the event. They suggested I do another one, and that's basically where it all began. Have you been to other events/fashion shows? J: I did attend a few fashion shows throughout the years back home in Fiji, and also some here in the United States, including Sacramento Fashion Week. I’m proud of where I’m from and I’m proud of the talent there so I would always buy directly from designers in Fiji. This is how I came to know them personally and am excited to be working directly with them for this show. Do you currently have sponsors? J: For now, this just started as a small event, so I wasn’t really looking for sponsors. However, partnering up with Duane Ram and DMR Productions now, I see the potential exposure and benefit in having sponsors, not only for the designers but also for the models and everyone else involved. This is something we will be considering and putting together for next year’s event, for sure. What are your goals for the future? J: My goal is to execute an amazing show so I can turn it into an annual event and give the designers back home [Fiji] an outlet to present their designs out here in the USA.
